The late Deputy Finance Minister John Kumah’s wife, Apostle Mrs Lilian Kumah, is requesting an explanation from media figure Captain Smart over claims that her husband was poisoned.

She has requested that the Ghana Police Service make sure the Onua TV host provides evidence to support his statements regarding the events that led to her husband’s death in an official complaint.

The Deputy Finance Minister, who passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024, was allegedly adversely impacted by food poisoning, according to Captain Smart during a live TV programme.

He added that another possible target was the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi.

In a statement, the widow expressed that these allegations are intensifying their existing distress, labelling them as “misinforming and unfortunate”.

Apostle Lilian is urging the police to probe these claims to clarify the speculative narrative surrounding her husband’s death.

“Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah, the widow of the late John Kumah is reportedly seeking answers, through the Ghana Police Service, from Captain Smart, a TV and Radio presenter at Onua TV, on statements the latter reportedly made about the health battles of the now deceased Deputy Finance Minister.

“The widow’s quest for investigations into the claims by Mr Smart is likely to set aright the emerging conspiracy discourse surrounding the lawmaker’s passing while signalling to other persons without basis to desist from further publishing spurious or unfounded allegations on the matter.”
