According to Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office, the suspects include a companion of Payne, accused of “abandonment of a person followed by death,” along with a hotel employee and another individual, both facing charges of supplying drugs.

Payne, aged 31, rose to international fame through his involvement with the boy band One Direction and was recognized worldwide. Authorities have meticulously investigated his final hours at the CasaSur hotel, where he stayed prior to the tragic incident. Reports indicate that hotel staff had alerted emergency services twice, describing a guest who had allegedly consumed excessive amounts of drugs and alcohol and was damaging property. Subsequent police examinations of his room uncovered various substances and signs of destruction.

Toxicology reports from the prosecutor’s office confirmed that Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine, and an antidepressant in his system. A post-mortem examination concluded that his death was due to “multiple trauma” and “internal and external hemorrhage,” caused by his fall. It is suspected that Payne may have been in a state of semi or full unconsciousness at the time, eliminating the likelihood of a deliberate act, according to medical findings.

Following the incident, law enforcement executed nine searches across Buenos Aires, examining Payne’s laptop and other electronic devices for additional information. The investigation has reviewed over 800 hours of hotel security footage, along with testimonies from hotel staff, family members, friends, and medical personnel.
