Love Turns Deadly: Final – Year Nursing Student’s Tragic Death

Gifty Kyere, a 28-year-old final-year nursing student, tragically lost her life under mysterious circumstances. She spent the night with her 23-year-old boyfriend, Edmond Ayomah, in Jinjini, Bono Region. Gifty’s father, Pastor Jonathan Kyere, had been informed by her daughter that she was heading back to school after collecting her fees, but instead, she visited her boyfriend.

During the night, Gifty complained of severe abdominal pains. Ayomah took her to the Jinjini clinic, where he abandoned her. Gifty’s condition worsened, and she passed away in the early hours of May 9, 2025.
Authorities launched a search for Ayomah after preliminary investigations. He remains at large, and Gifty’s body has been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

There are speculations that Ayomah was pressuring Gifty to terminate a pregnancy, which might have contributed to her death. Ayomah reportedly told friends that Gifty suffered an asthma attack, but investigations suggest otherwise. Many people have expressed frustration over the incident, questioning the age difference between Gifty and Ayomah. This tragedy serves as a wake-up call for Ghanaians, especially the youth, to be cautious about their relationships. Gifty’s death has sparked conversations about the importance of prioritizing
one’s well-being and safety in relationships.

This incident comes after a similar tragedy involving a student at the University of Education, Winneba, who was found dead after discovering his girlfriends had been cheating on him. Gifty’s father, Pastor Jonathan Kyere, is seeking justice for his daughter’s death. As the investigation continues, many wonder what happened that fateful night. Gifty’s story serves as a wake-up call for people to be wise in identifying red flags in relationships and value safety, well-being, and healthy relationships. Parents, religious bodies and other socially inclined institutions should focus more on guiding the youth on relationships and marriage issues.
