Tragic Hit-and-Run Kills 2 Achimota Alumni After Event
Tragic Hit-and-Run Claims Lives of Two Achimota Old Students After Bonfire Event

Tragically, Davida Asante Boateng and Lilian Akorli, two former Achimota School pupils, perished in a suspected hit-and-run on the Achimota Highway. Both young women were going home from the school’s Annual Bonfire Celebration on the evening of March 7, 2025, when the tragic event occurred. They were both members of the Old Achimotan Association (OAA) 2024.
The two victims, who were also University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) students, were hit by a speeding black Toyota Corolla when they were crossing the highway, according to an official statement from the OAA24 Executive Board. The victims were critically injured when the motorist failed to stop.
At at 12:02 a.m., on-scene good samaritans hurried them to the hospital. Sadly, at approximately 4:00 a.m. on March 8, Ms. Boateng passed away from her wounds. Later that morning, Ms. Akorli, who had suffered serious injuries, also died.
Their families, friends, and the Achimota alumni community are in great sadness following the tragic death. The OAA24 Executive Board offered the families of the deceased its deepest sympathies and promised to be there for them through this trying period.
“We stand with the families of Davida and Lilian, and we will find meaningful ways to honor their memory,” the association stated.
Concerns over pedestrian safety on Accra’s highways have been brought up once more by this unfortunate tragedy. Authorities are asking anyone with knowledge to come forward as they begin their investigation to find the driver who caused the hit-and-run.
In order to stop such tragedies in the future, the Achimota community and the general public are still expressing their sorrow and demanding justice and better traffic safety regulations.
