Two individuals were apprehended in Swedru, Central Region, for enrolling ineligible individuals for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates (WASSCE-SC).

The suspects, Robert Hackman, a private teacher, and Kwabena Baah Achemfour, a part-time teacher, were caught by a joint team of the National Security Intelligence Unit and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) security while attempting to register these candidates. They are assisting the Swedru District Police Headquarters in the investigation. Hackman recruited individuals, mainly from Accra, Takoradi, Agona Swedru, Cape Coast, and Dunkwa-On-Offin, through social media to re-register for the exam.

The duo, labeled as “examination profiteers,” used a biometric device, a Lenovo laptop, and school uniforms to carry out their scheme. They also allegedly provided foreign materials to these candidates during exams. Investigations revealed that they arranged with a school headmistress to use the ICT laboratory for registration.

Achemfour deceived people into registering under fictitious institutions, charging each candidate GH¢6,000.00. The security team recommended derecognizing the SDA SHS, Kenyasi, as an exam center to curb such illegal activities and mitigate examination malpractice.

“At about 8 a.m., Hackman and Achemfour commenced the illegal registration of those unqualified persons, however, in the process, they were apprehended by the team and sent to the Swedru District Police Headquarters for investigations,” Mr Kapi told the Daily Graphic
