The National Communications Authority (NCA) has declared that disruptions in numerous undersea cables have impacted both mobile and fixed data services nationwide.

As per the NCA’s statement, these disruptions have affected cables responsible for handling international traffic in Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, and Portugal, consequently affecting data services within the country.

In a press release issued on March 14, the NCA stated that“The disruptions affecting multiple undersea cables responsible for carrying international traffic have occurred in Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire and with some disruptions in Portugal. This has led to a significant degradation of data services across the country.”

Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) are actively working to restore full services. The NCA also mentioned its ongoing monitoring of the situation and commitment to keeping the public informed.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications has linked the challenges in accessing internet connectivity to outages on multiple submarine optic fiber cables entering Ghana. According to the Chamber, some cables are inactive while others are operating at reduced capacity. MTN and Telecel (formerly Vodafone) have expressed apologies to their customers and affirmed their continuous efforts to restore internet connectivity.
