Urgent Sunday Blackout Alert: GridCo Plans Major Fixes
Accra Communities to Face Temporary Power Outages on Sunday, May 18 Due to GridCo Maintenance

In an attempt to improve the dependability of Accra’s electrical supply, the Ghana Grid Company (GridCo) has announced a planned maintenance operation at the Mallam Bulk Supply Point (BSP) for Sunday, May 18, 2025. The capital’s electricity supply will be momentarily cut off in several locations during the anticipated 9:00 AM–4:00 PM maintenance exercise.
In order to increase the national grid’s efficiency and provide more consistent power distribution to customers over the long run, maintenance work is essential. In the short term, meanwhile, businesses and residents in the impacted areas will have to brace themselves for brief blackouts that will last for seven hours.
Numerous communities are anticipated to be affected, according to a list provided by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), which would be in charge of power distribution during this time. Odorko, Sakaman, Awoshie, Mallam, Darkuman, Santa Maria, Kwashieman, Sowutuom, Ablekuma, Tarbora, Joma, Manhia, Gbawe, Weija, West Hills Mall, Oblogo, Aynaa, Boartianor, McCarthy Hills, Mandela, Sunda Industries, Tuba, Dunkonaa, and Dansoman are a few of these.
ECG apologized sincerely for any trouble this may have caused and promised consumers that every attempt will be made to rapidly restore power as the maintenance is finished, according to a statement made public. Additionally, the power company praised residents for their understanding and patience while reaffirming its commitment to enhancing overall service quality.
It is recommended that residents take the appropriate safety measures, such as unplugging delicate devices and preparing for the power loss. Companies that operate in these regions could also need to temporarily modify their schedules. The continuous efforts to modernize Ghana’s electricity infrastructure, which is still essential to the country’s development and service provision, are highlighted by this intentional outage.
