US Embassy Grants 25K Visas to Ghanaians in 2024 Surge
U.S. Embassy in Ghana Processed 25,000 Visas for Ghanaians in 2024 Amid Drive for Transparency and Legal Entry

About 25,000 visas were issued to Ghanaian applicants in 2024, according to the US Embassy in Ghana, out of 61,000 applications received. This information was revealed on Friday, May 9, 2025, during the Embassy’s Consular Media Day, an event designed to enhance the applicant experience and raise awareness of U.S. visa procedures. Aiming to clarify the U.S. visa application process, set expectations for applicants, and emphasize the significance of following legal channels while seeking entry into the United States, the event was attended by media representatives and stakeholders in the travel and immigration sectors.
U.S. Consular General Elliot Fertik spoke at the occasion and emphasized the Embassy’s continued dedication to providing Ghanaians with a more effective, stress-free, and transparent visa application process. He underlined that, as long as they follow the nation’s immigration regulations, people who are interested in travel, education, business, and investment are still welcome in the United States.
“In 2024, the U.S. Embassy issued 25,000 visas to Ghanaians for various purposes including studying, working, and visiting. We are proud to continue building strong people-to-people ties between our two countries,” Fertik stated. “However, visa applicants must respect the law. Entry into the U.S. is a privilege that comes with responsibilities.”
Fertik was also unequivocal about the U.S. government’s stance on illegal immigration. He warned against the use of fraudulent methods or shortcuts, stating that those found engaging in deceitful practices will face severe consequences such as visa denials or permanent bans.
“The United States has zero tolerance for illegal immigration. It is crucial that Ghanaians understand the proper procedures for visa applications and what is expected of them before, during, and after the process,” he cautioned.
Prospective visitors are nonetheless advised by the Embassy to keep themselves updated, trust official sources, and steer clear of unreliable claims made by third-party agents. Maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s immigration system while strengthening ties is a priority for the U.S. embassy there.
