The Volta River Authority (VRA) has issued a warning to stakeholders regarding the possibility of a controlled spillage of water from the Akosombo Dam.

This precautionary measure aims to maintain the dam’s structural integrity and safeguard communities in the vicinity.

The announcement follows a significant controlled spillage in 2023, lasting from September 15 to October 30, which resulted in severe flooding in the Lower Volta region.

In anticipation of potential risks, Ing. Ken Arthur, Deputy Chief Executive of VRA, has initiated discussions with over 40 stakeholders, including government ministries, local assemblies, and community leaders. The objective is to assess the implications of another spillage, outline preventive measures, and strategize for effective communication with residents.
