We’ll Pay You as Quickly as we Can; NSS Informs Personnel
Personnel under the National Service Scheme (NSS) have been informed that their unpaid allowances will be paid to them shortly.
According to Armstrong Esaah, the Scheme’s Director of Corporate Affairs, the reasons behind the payment’s delay have been fixed.
In an Eyewitness News interview on Citi FM on Friday, he informed Selorm Adonoo that the program’s management had taken all reasonable steps to guarantee that their allowances were paid.
“I think that the issues and the challenges that caused the delay in the payment of their allowances mostly have been cleared and so we want to assure them that within the shortest possible time payment would be made to clear the January and February.”
“…We empathise with them. We understand the plights they are going through. But we want to assure them that management has taken every step it needs to take to ensure that they are paid within the shortest possible time.
“Let me also apologise to them for the delay in the payment of their allowances and also appeal to them to rescind their decision of going on strike as it is being rumoured.”
The National Service Personnel Association (NASPA) secretary, Nana Adu Gyamfi Mensah, has announced that the Association will no longer accept justifications from the National Service Scheme for the postponed payment of its members’ allowances.
According to him, the Association requires that all three months’ worth of arrears that are owing to its members be paid by a certain date.
This comes after previous warnings that if the allowances were not paid on time, there may be industrial action.
In addition, he expressed his regret to them for the payment delay.
