The Medical Director of the Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital has been temporarily suspended as the Ghana Health Service (GHS) investigates allegations of patient abandonment in Gomoa Ojobi, Central Region.
The investigation stems from allegations that surfaced on June 13, 2024, involving a video showing a woman, wrapped in sheets, abandoned in a bush.
The woman was reportedly left by an ambulance from the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.
To maintain the integrity of the investigation and ensure unrestricted access to information, the GHS has temporarily relieved the Medical Director of his duties. This move, communicated in a statement signed by GHS Director-General Patrick Kuma-Aboagye on June 14, 2024, is intended to facilitate a thorough and unbiased inquiry.
Director-General Patrick Kuma-Aboagye has assured that the investigation will be comprehensive, and those responsible for the incident will face appropriate consequences. The Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, has mandated that the investigation be concluded within 30 days, reflecting the urgency and seriousness with which the matter is being treated.
The video has sparked widespread outrage and speculation on social media, highlighting concerns about patient care and the conduct of healthcare services. The GHS’s swift response, including the suspension of the Medical Director, underscores its commitment to addressing the incident transparently and effectively.
The committee established by the GHS will continue its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged patient abandonment. The results of this inquiry will determine any further actions and ensure accountability for those involved.
