Ghana’s position at the top of Group I in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Africa qualifiers was short-lived. Just 24 hours after securing the lead, the Black Stars were overtaken by Comoros, who defeated Chad 2-0 on Tuesday to claim the top spot.

Both Ghana and Comoros now have nine points each, but Comoros leads the group on goal difference. This turn of events followed Ghana’s 4-3 victory over the Central African Republic in Kumasi and a 2-1 win against Mali in Bamako, giving them three wins out of four matches. Despite these successes, Comoros’ consistent performance, including their recent win over Chad, has placed them ahead.

Currently, Madagascar sits in third place with seven points, closely followed by Mali with five points and the Central African Republic with four. Chad remains at the bottom of the group, having yet to secure any points.
